West Valley City – The West Valley Symphony of Utah presents “Symphony No. 5” by Ludwig Van Beethoven, with Music Director Donny Gilbert, Saturday, March 8th at 7:30 p.m., and for the musicians and the audience, there are very few more worthwhile things to experience.
The opening gesture is the most famous beginning in all of classical music…
Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony revolutionized the way symphonies were written after it’s premier. It became one of the most recognizable works in the history of music. Beethoven believed its immortal rhythm was the knock of “Fate” at his door. It was used by the British to signify victory during World War II; its rhythm was the Morse code for “V”. It was the expressive ideal fully formed. The symphony symbolizes the musical battle between dark and light with its brutal hammer strokes opening rhythm, the softer yet still strident middle movements to the joyous and monumental final movement. Experience Beethoven with the West Valley Symphony of Utah when it performs this groundbreaking work of intellectual and artistic vision; the angst and triumph that was Beethoven.
